The reflections on the shiny marble floors combined with the large windows casting strong shadows are very rewarding for a photographer. I caught this scene in a walkway between two office towers with my Olympus “Pen” E-p2 and the Lumix 20mm f1.7 lens.

As I was walking down Third Avenue I stumbled upon this scene and I could not resist a quick candid. The light was challenging for a digital camera since it was fairly dark on the inside of the cinema entrance, and brightly sunny in the street.

Sometimes a very unobtrusive digital point-and-shoot with a long zoom such as the Canon G9 is perfect for getting some intimate shots in a public place, like this one of two girlfriends seemingly into some intense gossip at the Barnes and Noble bookstore cafe, New York City.

I took this with the Olympus Pen E-p2 and the Panasonic G. Vario 4.5-5.6/45-200 lens. The ISO was 2000 and noise is clearly visible, but is of a type that does not bother me in BW. It almost is reminiscent of film grain. 😉

One of the problems with some digital cameras is the shutter delay. The Canon G9 is no exception, although it is better than some point and shoots. In this case I saw the woman coming and pre-focused on the mosaic. I fired when she put her right foot on the floor and this is the result. I only had one chance.<br Canon G9.

I was watching people going up and down the stairs when I saw this young woman wearing bright red stockings approach. Working with a manual focus lens I pre-focused and waited for the perfect moment. The angle and color of the late afternoon sun produced an interesting shadow and a beautiful tone.

Believe it or not, but this scene was taken along a very hectic Lexington Avenue in the heart of New York City. I love working with my old and trusty Olympus OM1. There is something satisfying about a completely manual camera. The super sharp Zuiko 50mm f1.4 is one of my favorites. I love the subtle colors of Kodak Portra NC.
